Varying spindle sizes are becoming a bit of an issue due to different sizing standards across the world - this can cause a real nightmare when trying to replace handles or locks whilst making sure they can interact together via the spindle.
The industry standard here in the UK is an 8mm spindle, however, we are seeing more and more variations entering the market from around the world, and this is why we now have these spindle converter sleeves to allow you to adjust the thickness of your spindle at certain places - either at the ends of the spindle for the handle's thicker spindle requirements, or in the center for the lock's thicker spindle requirement.
These spindle sleeves are designed to convert your industry-standard 8mm spindles up to a 10mm spindle thickness, allowing for use of 10mm follower locks or 10mm follower handles to be used in conjunction with other hardware with an 8mm follower.

Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a quick look at one of our product review videos. Now, we are putting the short little videos together to be able to give you, our customers, the opportunity to see the products that we have to offer and hopefully a little bit more detail than you may get from just the pictures or a bit of descriptive text.
Today I want to show you some of these spindle adjusters that we have on our website. The idea of these particular units here is to allow you to be able to change the size of spindles, these spindle adapters. Now, in the EU and in America, etc., now we get a lot more of different products being imported from all over the world, the actual standard size of 8-millimetre spindles is starting to become a little bit of a variable, so if you decide that you want to have a specific lock that might have a certain size follower (that is the hole that you put a spindle into is called a follower), and then you might have a set of handles that might be a different size, etc., maybe you can still be able to marry the two together.
We have these particular spindle adapters. This particular one here allows you to change an 8-millimetre spindle, which is the industry standard in the UK, to a 10-millimetre sized spindle. Therefore, then if your handles are using the 8-millimetre, but the lock has a 10-millimetre follower, then this is obviously going to be too loose in the door and therefore then it is not going to make for a smooth operation. What you would effectively do is allow you to slide this over here like that. That would then sit into the lock's follower like that, and now you've actually got it all built up to the right size, and therefore then it is going to be a lot smoother operation.
There is quite a big variety of different types of spindle adapters. This particular one here is 6-8 millimetres. There are some on our website, as well, from 4 to 8 millimetres as well. If there is a particular application you may find privacy turns, etc., that the furniture might be 8 millimetre, but the actual lock itself might be 4 millimetre, so therefore then you have the ability to be able to beef up the size of the spindle.
This, of course, allows you therefore, then, to use a whole myriad of different types of locks with a whole myriad of different types of handles, so it is actually quite an important product in our industry these days.
Listen, if you need a bit more information on these or any of the products that we have, pop us over an email, use the live chat that we have, or simply do it the old fashioned way and give us a call. We would love to hear from you, and more importantly we would love to see you as one of our customers. So from me, Darrel, and all of us at the team, thanks for taking the time to tune in. We'll catch up with you real soon, I hope. Take care now. Bye-bye.
