What are we Doing?

As part of The Walters Group, Locksonline are sending a team of four to take part in the Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge with the aim of raising money, through sponsorship, for the Ty Hafan charity.

When are we Doing it?

The Tŷ Hafan Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge takes place on 23rd June 2012. The challenge begins at 4:00am in North Wales when we will take on Snowdon, Wales' highest peak. We will then head to Mid Wales to tackle the mighty Cadair Idris, and then to Pen-y-fan in the South to complete the challenge in approximately 15 hours.

Who are Tŷ Hafan?

Tŷ Hafan are a charity who provide comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families. For more information about Tŷ Hafan, visit the Tŷ Hafan website.

How are we Collecting Sponsorship?

We are using the well established, JustGiving.com website. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The Mountains

Snowdon

Snowdon mountain

Snowdon (Welsh: Yr Wyddfa) is the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) in Gwynedd, and has been described as "probably the busiest mountain in Britain". It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna.

Cader Idris

Cader Idris mountain

Cadair Idris or Cader Idris is a mountain in Gwynedd, Wales, which lies at the southern end of the Snowdonia National Park. It has an elevation of 893 m (2,930 ft). The peak, which is one of the most popular in Wales for walkers and hikers, is composed largely of Ordovician igneous rocks, with classic glacial erosion features such as cwms, moraines, striated rocks, and roches moutonnées.

Pen Y Fan

Pen Y Fan mountain

Pen y Fan is the highest peak in South Wales and southern Britain, situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park. At 886 metres (2,907 ft) above sea-level, it is also the highest peak in Britain south of the Snowdonia mountain range. The twin summits of Pen y Fan and Corn Du were formerly referred to as Cadair Arthur or 'Arthur's Seat'.
